Octetly, a LAN scanner, is now available
We have released Octetly, a LAN scanner for macOS.
Octetly lists what is connected to the network you are on. It discovers hosts with ICMP echo requests and the system ARP cache, then shows addresses, MAC addresses and vendors, reverse DNS and SMB names, and the state of the ports commonly used for remote access and web serving.
Rows appear as hosts are found rather than at the end of the scan. Name resolution runs alongside discovery, while round-trip times are measured in a pass of their own once discovery has finished: a sweep with hundreds of requests outstanding inflates what comes back, and measuring again afterwards is what makes the figure comparable to ping(8).
Builds are universal dmgs (Intel and Apple Silicon), signed with a Developer ID and notarized. It requires macOS 14 or newer.
